In her own words, Naadiya Moosajee is “a serial social entrepreneur by passion, a civil engineer by training, and co-founder at WomHub, a boutique incubator and co-working hub that supports female-led innovation, while building diverse teams through technology, consulting and advisory services”.
A South African engineer, she also co-founded Women in Engineering, a non-profit organisation that aims to develop engineering talent among girls in multiple African countries.
Speaking at Slaying in your Lane, the GIBS Entrepreneurship Development Academy initiative sponsored by the innovative and disruptive Fintech company ProfitShare Partners, Naadiya smiles as she admits she started all her businesses “through frustration”.
Rather than complain about gender inequality in the engineering industry, Naadiya says robust action was the way to change the industry. “The problems we began to address, we realised, were far greater than we initially thought and were global.” Naadiya and her teams thought they would be able to take on inclusivity and make the required impact within around 10 years.
“Seventeen years later,” she says, “we’re still working on it and finding solutions to inequality.” Highlights of her career, she says, include the number of people around the world who understand what she is trying to do and have been onboarded with Naadiya’s ideals and actions.
People, passion and purpose are the ethos that underpins all the businesses. In the Fireside Chat, you’ll hear Naadiya share the issues that affect female entrepreneurs in South Africa, and how she and her teams go about addressing these.
From divisions that include talent pipelines for the engineering and tech industries and incubators and accelerators to help women build their businesses, the latest addition is a venture capital fund to address the minuscule amount of funding allocated to women-led start-ups and businesses.
Named way back in 2014 among “The 20 Youngest Power Women In Africa 2014” by Forbes Magazine, join Naadiya in this intriguing and motivating talk as she shares her exceptional journey across several industries and the insights into women-led enterprises supported from start-up to scale, with everything from business mentors, venture clinics and our women in STEM investment fund.
