It has become tradition for the month of March to be dedicated to Human Rights, with the highlight this year being Human Rights Day on Thursday 21 March, where the designated theme is “Three Decades of Respect for and Promotion of Human Rights”.
According to the South African Government website, “Our Constitution is hailed as one of the most progressive in the world. The Constitution is the ultimate protector of our Human Rights, which were previously denied to the majority of our people under Apartheid. We commemorate Human Rights Day to reinforce our commitment to the Bill of Rights as enshrined in our Constitution.”
These rights include:
- Equality – everyone is equal before the law and has the right to equal protection and benefit of the law
- Human dignity – everyone has inherent dignity and to have their dignity respected and protected
- Freedom of movement and residence – everyone has a right to freedom of movement and to reside anywhere in the country
- Language and culture – everyone has the right to use the language and to participate in the cultural life of their choice
- Life – everyone has the right to life
Along with many South African-based companies, ProfitShare Partners strives to demonstrate the responsibility and care we would all like to see in our country’s future, by fostering greater social cohesion and nation-building.
Andrew Maren, founder and CEO of ProfitShare Partners, notes that the company continues to work to give SMEs access to finance to ensure financial and social stability.
“One of the greatest things we can hear as a company is that a client of ours is succeeding and creating jobs for others.”
“We wish all South Africans a good Human Rights Day, even while we remember the many who made the ultimate sacrifice for us to have the life we do in today’s democratic South Africa.”
