“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” Mandela famously said. He also said that the true character of society is revealed in how it treats its children.
These words resonate with the Moses Maren Mission, an organisation that supports the community it serves through education and child care – a mission that ProfitShare Partners supports to ensure this legacy continues.
In 1985, the Moses Maren Mission was started by a socially mindful family that recognised the need to help vulnerable children in the surrounding areas. Reverend Moses Maren opened the Olifantsveli Primary School to accommodate all of the children who lived on farms in the area, when a greater need and challenge arose. After completing Grade 7, learners were forced to go back to farm labouring jobs because there was no high school to continue their education. This inspired the reverend to establish a high school that would offer academic and technical training education.
His vision, however, stirred up a staggering opposition at the time. Reverend Maren did not give up. Through his determination and the support of the donors at the time, he was granted permission to proceed in building the high school in 1994, which to date has seen more than 90,000 learners pass through its doors.
The Moses Maren Mission schools currently facilitate more than 3,000 learners and has continued to grow significantly since establishment. It was because of the foresight and belief of Reverend Moses Maren that the primary school, secondary school and technical school today continues to serve vulnerable children in the community, which also creates employment for educationists and other workers of the institution.
The Moses Maren Mission also established a Children’s Home for vulnerable, young people. The home currently cares for 16 children with ten more expected to take residence in the coming weeks. Volunteer caregivers take care of the children’s needs on a day-to-day basis.
Considering the maintenance needs of the property and the comfort needs of the children living at Moses Maren Mission, ProfitShare Partners has installed solar panel geysers to ensure that they have hot water every day.
“We are glad that we could contribute positively to the children living at the Moses Maren Mission Children’s Home this year. We’re passionate about their well-being and we hope that this small contribution makes a difference to them now and into the future,” said Andrew Maren, CEO of ProfitShare Partners.
On Madiba Day, 18 July 2019, the ProfitShare Partners team will be visiting the Moses Maren Mission children’s home to enjoy a fun-filled afternoon together.
